Hotel website development
A hotel site has one job: get a guest from photograph to confirmed booking without friction. We build lean, fast sites with the booking engine embedded properly, rates visible early, and a mobile experience that works on a patchy connection in transit.
What we build in
- Room pages with real photography, rates and clear availability
- Booking engine integration — SiteMinder, Cloudbeds, Little Hotelier and similar
- Sub-2.5 second loading on mobile, compressed and modern image formats
- Multi-currency display and WhatsApp enquiry on every page
- SEO structure built in from the start, not bolted on later
Rebuild or repair
If your current site is on a platform that works, we will often fix speed, structure and the booking path rather than sell you a rebuild you do not need.
What makes a hotel website different from any other website
A hotel website is not a brochure with a booking button attached. It is a transaction path competing directly against Booking.com — a company that has spent enormous sums working out exactly how a traveller behaves between arriving on a page and confirming a room. Every independent property's site is judged, unconsciously, against that standard.
That comparison sets the requirements. The guest expects to see real photographs of the specific room they would get, the total price including taxes early rather than at the final step, clear availability for their dates, and a flow that takes a small number of taps on a phone. Where an independent site loses is almost never design taste. It is friction: a booking engine that opens in a new tab with different branding, a rate that changes at step four, a form asking for an account before it will show a price.
The second difference is context of use. A significant share of hotel bookings for Sri Lanka are made on a phone, sometimes in transit, sometimes on a slow connection. A site built and tested on a desktop with fast broadband can be effectively unusable in the conditions where it matters most.
Speed, mobile and the connection your guest is actually on
Page speed is a conversion issue before it is an SEO issue. Every additional second of load time on mobile costs a measurable share of visitors, and hotel sites are unusually prone to being slow because they are image-heavy by nature — large galleries, full-screen hero photography, video backgrounds.
The fixes are well understood and rarely applied: modern compressed image formats served at the size actually displayed, lazy loading below the fold, restraint with fonts and third-party scripts, and honest scrutiny of every widget — chat tools, review badges, tracking scripts — that adds weight without adding bookings.
We test against realistic conditions rather than a fast office connection: a mid-range Android phone on a 3G-grade link, which is a fair approximation of a traveller checking properties on the road in Sri Lanka. A site that works there works everywhere.
Booking engine integration, done properly
Nearly every independent property uses a third-party booking engine — SiteMinder, Cloudbeds, Little Hotelier and similar — and the quality of that integration is often the largest single conversion factor on the site.
Done badly, the engine opens on a different domain with different styling, breaking both the guest's trust and your conversion tracking. Done well, it is embedded so the guest never feels handed off, with dates carried through from the room page, prices shown in the guest's currency, and tracking configured across the domain boundary so you can actually see which marketing produced which booking.
That cross-domain tracking problem deserves particular attention: a large number of hotels spending on advertising cannot tell which campaigns produce bookings, purely because the confirmation page sits on a domain nobody configured. It is a fixable technical detail with an outsized effect on every other channel.
Built for search from the start
- A dedicated, indexable page for each room category, with its own photography, description and rate
- Pages for the trips, seasons and nearby attractions your guests search before choosing a property
- Hotel, room, price and review schema so listings can show rich results
- Clean URLs, correct headings and internal links between related pages
- Multi-currency display and a WhatsApp enquiry option on every page
- An enquiry path for guests who prefer to ask before they book, which in this market is many of them
Rebuild or repair
If your current site sits on a platform that works, we will usually fix speed, structure and the booking path rather than sell you a rebuild you do not need. A rebuild is warranted when the platform cannot support indexable room pages, cannot be made fast, or cannot integrate the booking engine cleanly — and an audit will show which case you are in before anyone commits money.
Common questions
How much does a hotel website cost in Sri Lanka?
It depends on the number of room categories, whether photography and content are included, and how your booking engine integrates. What we can say is that the cheapest option is usually the most expensive over time, because a slow site with no indexable room pages costs bookings every month it runs.
Which booking engines can you integrate with?
The ones Sri Lankan properties most commonly use — SiteMinder, Cloudbeds, Little Hotelier and similar — embedded so the guest is not visibly handed to another site, with cross-domain tracking configured so bookings can be attributed to the marketing that produced them.
How fast should a hotel website load?
Aim for under two and a half seconds on a mid-range phone on a slow connection, because that is the situation many travellers are actually in. Hotel sites are image-heavy by nature, so this needs deliberate work rather than good intentions.
Do we need a separate page for every room type?
Yes. It is one of the highest-impact structural decisions available: each room page can rank for the searches that describe it, show its own photography and rate, and answer the specific questions guests have about it. Listing all rooms on one page wastes most of that opportunity.
Should our website show prices?
Show live rates and availability wherever the booking engine allows it. Hiding prices sends travellers straight to the OTA listing to find out, and that is where they then book.
Can you improve our existing website instead of rebuilding it?
Often, yes. Many hotel sites need speed work, added room pages, structural fixes and a better booking path rather than a new build. A rebuild is only the right answer when the current platform cannot support those changes.
