A hotel marketing strategy for Sri Lankan resorts

A resort has more revenue lines and more empty-night risk than a boutique property. The strategy has to cover all of them, and it has to survive a monsoon.

Start with the channel mix

Map every booking from the last twelve months to a channel and work out net revenue after commission. Most resorts discover one or two channels are quietly unprofitable.

Plan the year, not the month

  • Peak months: protect rate, push direct, stop discounting
  • Shoulder months: paid acquisition works hardest here
  • Low months: domestic, groups, weddings and long stays

Sell more than rooms

Day passes, Sunday brunch, spa packages and event hire fill capacity you already have. Locals and expatriates in Colombo are an underused audience for this.

Give events their own funnel

Wedding and corporate enquiries behave nothing like leisure bookings. They need their own page, their own rate sheet and a reply within hours.
