Event and wedding marketing

One destination wedding can be worth thirty room nights and a decade of referrals. Yet most properties bury the wedding page three clicks deep with no prices and no enquiry form that works on a phone.

What we build

  • A proper wedding and events page with capacity, packages and indicative pricing
  • Search and social campaigns aimed at UK, Australian, Indian and local planners
  • Planner and agency outreach with a rate sheet they can forward
  • Fast enquiry handling — most event leads go to whoever replies first

Why destination wedding enquiries behave differently from room bookings

A room booking is a low-risk, reversible decision made in minutes. A destination wedding is a high-risk, largely irreversible decision made over months, usually by two people and at least one parent, comparing a shortlist of three to six properties in different countries. Everything about how you market it has to change to match that.

The first difference is information. A couple planning a wedding in Sri Lanka from the UK, Australia or India needs to know capacity, indicative pricing, what a package includes, whether the ceremony can be legally registered, what the weather does in their preferred month, and where the guests will sleep. Most Sri Lankan hotel wedding pages answer none of those questions, which means the couple has to send an enquiry just to find out whether the property is even in range — and most will simply move on to a property that told them upfront.

The second difference is speed of response. Event and wedding leads reward whoever replies first with real information, because the couple is comparing properties in parallel and the first credible, complete reply anchors the comparison. A property that answers within an hour with a rate sheet and available dates is in a materially stronger position than one that replies in three days asking for a phone call.

The third is that the decision is emotional and visual. Photography and video of real events at your property — not stock, not renders — carry more weight than any copy. A couple needs to picture their own day in your space.

Building a wedding and events page that actually converts

  • Indicative pricing, even as a from-rate or per-head range, so unqualified enquiries filter themselves out
  • Capacity by setup — ceremony, seated dinner, cocktail — for each space you have
  • Real photography and video from weddings and events actually held at the property
  • Legal and practical detail: registration, licences, curfews, sound restrictions, generator backup
  • Accommodation blocks and group rates for guests, priced clearly
  • A short enquiry form that works on a phone and asks for date, guest count and budget range
  • A downloadable rate sheet or brochure a planner can forward without contacting you again

Where the enquiries come from

Destination wedding demand for Sri Lanka comes from a small number of identifiable places, and each needs a different approach. Search captures couples already considering the country — 'destination wedding Sri Lanka', 'beach wedding venue Bentota', 'wedding hotel Galle' — and converts well because the intent is explicit. Paid social, particularly Meta, reaches couples earlier, targeting engaged audiences in the UK, Australia, India and the Gulf who have not yet chosen a country.

Planners and agencies are the third source and the most overlooked. A single wedding planner in London, Mumbai or Melbourne who trusts your property can send several events a year. That relationship is built with a professional rate sheet, fast replies, a familiarisation visit where possible, and reliability on the day — not with advertising.

Corporate events, retreats and MICE business follow a similar pattern but through different channels: LinkedIn outreach to travel managers and event planners, and a separate corporate enquiry path that does not run through your leisure booking funnel.

Common questions

How do Sri Lankan hotels get more destination wedding enquiries?

By publishing the information couples need to shortlist you — capacity, indicative pricing, real event photography, and the legal and practical detail — then reaching couples through search terms that name Sri Lanka or your town, paid social aimed at engaged audiences in your source markets, and direct relationships with wedding planners who book internationally.

Should we publish wedding prices on the website?

Publishing at least an indicative range almost always improves enquiry quality. Hiding prices increases raw enquiry volume but fills your inbox with couples who were never in your bracket, and it costs you couples who assume you are out of theirs. A from-rate or per-head range lets people qualify themselves.

Which countries send the most destination wedding business to Sri Lanka?

The UK, Australia, India and the Gulf states are the source markets most Sri Lankan properties see repeat wedding business from, alongside domestic couples marrying at resort properties. Which of those is right for you depends on your capacity, price point and existing guest mix, which is something we look at before recommending where to spend.

How fast do we need to reply to a wedding enquiry?

Same day, and within the hour where possible. Couples enquire with several properties at once, and the first complete, credible reply — with dates, pricing and next steps — sets the standard the others are measured against.

Can you help with corporate and MICE business as well as weddings?

Yes. Corporate retreats, conferences and group business use the same function spaces but a different buying process, run through LinkedIn outreach, planner relationships and a corporate enquiry path kept separate from the leisure funnel.
